OPEN CALL FOR
ACTOR-CREATORS
Empty Box Theatre Company’s winter 2014 production will be an original play satirizing gender representations in contemporary popular culture. (It is also Keavy’s thesis). The piece will experiment with the use of satire and a complex audience relationship (it might be site-specific/ immersive/ promenade theatre) in order to examine what would happen in a world where gender roles are reversed.
ABOUT THE SHOW
The play will take place in an alternate world; a matriarchal society similar to our own, but in which the media (& government) is controlled by women. The story will follow female television executives (and their sons and husbands) responding to claims that the media is not fairly representing men.
Inspiration will be taken from the “mock parliaments” staged by suffragettes in the early 20th century, in which they argued why men shouldn’t be able to vote.
We’re looking for:
1-3 actors
4-7 actresses
Performers should be willing to participate in a research/creation process. Performers with skills in design, technical theatre, music, singing, dance, movement, improvisation or writing would be ideal.
